Free things to do in Agadir
Walk the beach and the corniche
Agadir’s long sandy bay is lined by a promenade with cafés and palm trees. Go in the late afternoon, when locals come out for a walk and the light turns gold.
Explore Souk El Had
One of the biggest markets in Morocco: spices, argan oil, fruit, crafts and clothes. It is open every day except Monday. Entry is free; haggling is normal.
Watch the fishing port
The working port north of the centre is lively in the morning. Next to it, simple grills cook the fresh catch for a cheap lunch.
Sunset at the marina
The marina has a walkway along the boats and a good view back over the bay at sunset.
Walk up to Agadir Oufella
The old kasbah on the hill above the port has the best view over the city. You can walk or drive up, or take the cable car.
Culture and history
Agadir was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, so its history lives in a few special places: the Oufella kasbah on the hill, a museum of Amazigh (Berber) heritage and a new medina built by hand in the traditional way.
Surf, sea and wellness
The coast north of Agadir is one of the most popular places in Morocco to learn to surf. A group lesson costs 270 DH per person. Boat trips leave from the marina.
Adventure: dunes, quads and camels
Day trips into nature
Paradise Valley, in the hills north-east of the city, has palm-lined gorges and natural pools. South of Agadir, the Souss-Massa National Park protects wetlands and dunes and is known for its birds.
A day trip to Taghazout
The surf village of Taghazout is about 30 minutes north. Take bus line 32 for 7.5 DH or a shared grand taxi for 15 DH per seat. Watch the surfers at the point breaks, have lunch by the sea and come back for sunset. Read the full Taghazout travel guide.
