About the city

What is Agadir?

Agadir is Morocco's most popular coastal destination, a modern beach city rebuilt from scratch after a devastating 1960 earthquake. Unlike Marrakech's maze of medina alleys or Fes's ancient streets, Agadir offers wide boulevards, palm-lined promenades and a long crescent beach along the Atlantic.

The city sits on Morocco's southern Atlantic coast, at the foot of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, in the Souss-Massa region. Many locals speak Amazigh (Berber) alongside Arabic and French.

Agadir is not your typical Moroccan city, it's relaxed, modern, and beach-focused. But beyond the resort strip, you'll find one of Morocco's largest souks, world-class surf spots, and some of the best seafood in the country. Whether you're researching the best things to do in Agadir or trying to nail your Agadir travel budget before you land, this guide covers everything with real local prices from the places listed on WeMaak.

40-80 MAD per person

Tagine

Morocco's national dish, slow-cooked meat or vegetables in a clay pot with aromatic spices. Lamb, chicken or vegetable. Found everywhere from street stalls to restaurants.

Best time to visit Agadir

October to April has warm days around 20-25°C, fewer crowds and the best surf. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, with more visitors on the beach.

Getting around

Petit taxis (orange in Agadir) use the meter in town; ask for it before you leave. The city bus costs 5 DH, and bus line 32 goes north to Taghazout for 7.5 DH.

Money

Bring Moroccan dirhams in cash. Small guesthouses, cafés and taxis often do not take cards. ATMs are easy to find in the city and in Taghazout.

Staying safe

Agadir is a calm city for travellers. Keep your bag in front of you in busy markets, agree on the price before a grand taxi, and a polite "la shukran" (no thank you) works with street sellers.
