Best time for the beach
For swimming, the sea is warmest from July to October, at about 22°C. June and September are a good balance: hot sunny days, warm water and fewer people than July and August.
Agadir's bay is sheltered, so the main city beach is calmer than the open coast further north. Even in winter, sunny days around 20°C are good for walking the corniche and lunch outside.
Best time to surf
From October to March the Atlantic sends its biggest and most regular swells. This is the season the famous point breaks around Taghazout work best, and it suits intermediate and advanced surfers.
From May to August the waves are smaller and softer, which is ideal for a first surf lesson. Beginners can learn all year on the beach breaks around Tamraght and Imourane. See the Taghazout surf camp prices.
When Agadir is busiest
July and August are the busiest months, with summer holidays for both Moroccan and European families. Christmas, New Year and Easter are busy too. Book your stay early for these dates.
May, October and November are usually the quietest: good weather and more choice of rooms.
Ramadan moves about 11 days earlier each year. During Ramadan, many local cafés open later and some close during the day, but tourist places keep serving. It can be a calm and interesting time to visit.
What to pack
October to April: light clothes for the day, a warm layer for evenings (nights can drop to about 8°C in January), and a wetsuit if you surf.
May to September: sun cream, a hat and light clothes. The Atlantic breeze keeps the coast cooler than inland Morocco.
